The Importance of Food in Our Daily Lives
The importance of food in our daily lives is something many of us take for granted. However, food security is one of the most pressing issues of our time. It is an unfortunate reality that many families in America, and throughout the world, don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
At Archway Communities, we make it our objective to help our residents live healthy lives, both mentally and physically. Keep reading to find out why food security is such an important issue in a community and how we aim to help.
A Pervasive Problem
Nearly one in nine people around the world go hungry every day. That statistic illustrates just how important it is to solve this issue quickly. While impressive strides have been made to fix the problem, it still persists—but the solution can begin in your local community.
One of the top priorities of Archway Communities is to provide food security to the low-to-moderate income families at our properties in the Denver Metro region and Colorado Springs, Colorado. One of the ways we do this is by executing over 50 food banks for our residents every month.
A Positive Impact
Food security has multiple other benefits besides fending off hunger. According to the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, secure access to food can positively impact economic growth and job creation, trade opportunities, global security and stability, and healthcare. It has also been shown to reduce poverty. Food isn’t just a one-time gift. It’s a stepping stone to a stronger, healthier community.
An Essential for Individual Well-Being
Food stability is integral not only for a community as a whole but for an individual’s mental and physical health. Worrying about where one’s next meal is coming from has been shown to increase levels of anxiety and depression. Additionally, food insecurity leads to a lack of the proper nutrients that are needed to nourish the body.
We Aim to Help
At Archway Communities, we want our residents to be happy, healthy, and successful. We understand that not every family has equal access to opportunities for growth and success. A large part of our mission is providing these low-to-moderate income families with secure access to food.
We aim to elevate lives by providing access to affordable housing, food security, and the supportive social services people need to thrive. It is our mission to help children and families by providing valuable resources, like our food services. We strive to create communities of dignity and respect for everyone, including families, neighbors, and staff.
