Meet Angelica Alvarez!
This past month two of our property managers received promotions to Portfolio Managers, overseeing the management at multiple properties. We sat down to talk with Angelica Alvarez, one of our new Portfolio Managers, on her journey in the industry and with Archway Communities.
Angelica has worked in property management for about 15 years. “It started as just a job opportunity. My sister was working with Mercy Housing and helped me to get a job as an intern there. Once the internship ended I joined full time.”
Since then, Angelica has been on all sides of property management – from affordable housing to conventional leases, assistant manager to portfolio manager. While she took a break to go to school and raise her son, her passion for the work rekindled when she returned.
“What is it about working on the affordable housing side that is so fulfilling to you?” I asked.
“I think it’s just the people, the families that I get to meet. And knowing that we are creating a way for them to safely and affordably live. We are helping.”
Growing up, Angelica’s mom worked as a social worker. “I think that’s what instilled a desire to help others, or just to place value in helping others.”
I asked her if there were people or moments that she is grateful for along the way in her career. “There have certainly been important people in my life, both personally and professionally that have helped me grow. But one thing that I’m certainly grateful for presently is the people at Archway.
“This organization truly does care and put people first. I’ve worked for other nonprofits and affordable housing providers, too, but there is something unique about the way Archway actually walks the walk when it comes to being mission first and putting others at the forefront.”
“What are you most excited about moving forward in your new role?” I asked.
“I’m excited to be a part of the growth this organization is experiencing. We are taking on new management opportunities and building opportunities and I enjoy being a part of the process. It’s unique when team members can look forward to growing with the company; to presenting ideas for improvement and actually be a part of bringing those changes about.
“I want the organization to be proud of the choice they made in promoting me. That is my focus.”
We are excited to see both Angelica and Mariana take on their new roles, and are confident they will make us proud every day!
